WHAT IS U3A? |
The University of the Third Age is made up of retired people who study together for the pleasure of learning. We share our knowledge and skills with each other in a disciplined but informal way. No qualification, apart from being retired, is required. U3A is not an academic institution which awards degrees. The U3A is a national charity composed of nearly 800 branches with a total membership of over 250,000. Around the country, local retired people organise themselves in a network for the purpose of learning. We receive no grants and are entirely self-financing. ONCE YOU HAVE PAID THE ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION, YOU MAY JOIN AS MANY GROUPS AS YOU LIKE, NORMALLY WITH NO EXTRA CHARGE, PROVIDED THERE IS ROOM. To quote one of the founders of the movement “Those who teach shall also learn and those who learn shall also teach”. Peter Laslett |
